Why I’m Returning to a Personal Brand Name
When I first started my business, I was a virtual assistant offering all sorts of services under the name Hope and Virtual—a playful nod to my surname, Hope. It felt fun and creative, but I quickly realised the name didn’t clearly convey what I was about.
As I grew, I began to feel a disconnect with being a general virtual assistant, so I worked with a coach to refine my focus. That’s when I specialised as a tech virtual assistant and rebranded as The Tech Sidekick. This iteration of my business had a bright, humorous brand that I enjoyed for a while.
But over time, even The Tech Sidekick didn’t feel quite right. I still lacked clarity and felt like a jack of all trades rather than a master of one. The more I leaned into what truly resonated with me, the clearer it became that I needed a brand that aligned with who I am and the work I love to do.
Over the years, my business has gone through many transformations. Each phase brought growth, clarity, and a better understanding of what truly matters to me and my clients. But recently, I found myself at a crossroads, questioning whether my brand fully reflected who I am today.
The answer was simple but profound: it didn’t. That realisation led me to one clear decision—I’m going back to a personal brand name.
Here’s why.
The Evolution of My Business
When I first started my business, I focused on finding a name that felt “professional” and distinct. I wanted it to represent my services and stand out in a crowded market. At the time, it felt like the right move.
But as my business grew, so did my vision. I began working more closely with clients who valued simplicity, clarity, and a personal connection. These relationships became the heart of my work, and I realised my brand needed to reflect that intimacy and trust.
What once felt polished and detached started to feel like a barrier between me and the people I wanted to help.
Why Personal Branding Feels Right
Returning to my name feels like coming home. It’s an opportunity to embrace authenticity and let my business reflect not just what I do, but who I am.
A personal brand fosters a connection that a business name simply can’t. It’s an invitation for my clients to know me, to trust me, and to see that I’m fully invested in helping them succeed.
This shift also aligns with my core values: simplicity and minimalism. I take a fuss-free approach in my work, focusing on simplicity and clarity, and my brand should embody that philosophy too. What could be simpler than using my own name?
What This Change Means for My Business
If you’ve been following my journey, you’ll know that my mission has always been to help small business owners create simple, effective websites and digital systems that save them time and stress. That hasn’t changed.
What’s different is how I present myself to the world. My personal brand name is a reflection of my commitment to authenticity and transparency. It’s a way to show up for my clients as my true self—without layers of branding that obscure the heart of what I do.
For you, this means a clearer, more direct connection. No distractions, no pretense—just me, ready to help you simplify your tech and streamline your design.
